Who is Tom Selman?

Tom is a native of Lufkin and a person who cares for and is concerned about his community.  He is a leader who has been active in the community for over 25 years.  Tom has invested a lot of time and energy to do his part to make Lufkin and Angelina County a better place for all citizens.  His involvement in a wide range of community affairs has raised his awareness of the need for good people to serve by taking positions of responsibility and helping others.  Tom would like to make use of his law enforcement experience by seeking an official role in the community, to make a difference and lend a hand to others.

Background and Family:

Tom is 45 years of age, was born and grew up in Lufkin.  He attended Lufkin schools and became interested in law enforcement while in High School.  After graduating from Lufkin High in 1976, Tom began his education in law enforcement at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville and later graduated from Angelina College in 1979 with a degree in Law Enforcement.  Tom is married to the former Joanie West, a native of Newton County, and, except for 2 years while assigned to Tyler and Polk Counties serving as a Trooper on the Texas Highway Patrol, is a lifelong resident of Angelina County.  Tom’s wife Joanie is a two time graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with degrees in Medical Technology and Nursing (graduating Magna Cum Laude).  She is a Medical Technologist (MT-ASCP) and a Registered Nurse (BSN).  She is employed as a Nursing School Instructor at SFA University full-time while working on her Masters Degree in Nursing through the University of Texas at Tyler.  Tom and Joanie have 2 daughters, Nikki, 18, who is a freshman at Texas A&M University and Kelli, 11, a Hudson Middle School student.  Tom and his family are all Christians and active members at Carpenter's Way Baptist Church.  Tom and Joanie have served their church in several volunteer capacities since becoming a part of the first group of members to join Carpenter’s Way when the church was founded over 8 years ago.
